TOPIC: Pedestal seats

Pedestal seats 13 years 4 months ago #39908

I have a new starcraft that I am cleaning up and I will be installing new interior. It has a good wood floor with fiberglass over it and I am kicking around ideas for seating. One thought was pedestal seats.

Has anyone ever used pedestal seats? Are the floors heavy enough to use them, any special care that need to be done when bolting them down to the floor?

Being in the middle of a floor replacement job myself, I recommend not screwing or bolting anything into the floor. Here's a link to a good thread about mounting/securing seats to the floor without doing so;

I bolted mine down to my deck but my deck is so light I can take to large screws from the keel and two men can lift the whole deck out with the seats and carpet attached. You don't want water leaking into a foam filled compartment. I'd take a very careful look at your boat and think about making such a drastic change. I love my pedestal seats but my case is different. Also does your boat sit in the weather, on the water , or is it under cover when not in use?

i have back to back seats in my larson that were screwed to the floor, through the fglass. not a good idea, water leaked in and rotted the floor out. i plan on getting new pedistal seats, im rebuilding my floor so i am going to fglass studs in the floor to bolt the seats to. what ever you decide, make sure there isn't any way for water to get into the floor.

I like doing it this way...
Grind the deck down to fresh glass then glass down the platform with Stainless Steel T-nuts on the underside and use Stainless bolts to secure the pedesestal.
