I want to get the correct vintage gas tank to go with the 1964 40hp Johnson on the Aqua Ray. There are a few different tank designs and many varieties of decals. Anybody know which one would be correct?

You might get a quicker response in JEGO's Place... or maybe not. I don't know.
Unless it's going as a museum piece, I'd use any old (non-pressurized?) Johnson/Evinrude/OMC tank that fits. |

This tank came with a 62 model so it might be also correct for a 64.

Yep, look exactly like the ones that came with my boat. '60 Wagemaker Clipper and '59 Evinrude Fat Fifty. I have three just like that with Evinrude on them.

maybe try the library, search the johnson of your motor,there's sure to be a pic of a tank there

May have answered my own question. Found a copy of an owner's manual with pic and it said "Non Pressurized Mile Master Tank". The decal on the tank appears to have The seahorse and "Johnson" in white letters and "Gasoline" with red letters (probably clear) on a white background. If I find a tank, any thoughts as to where I can get the correct decal?

Looks like the 60, 62 and 64 tanks are the same with the same decal. Thanks everyone for the input.
One more thing, they made a white vinyl gasket that went on the bottom of the metal tanks to protect it from scratching the deck. Any idea where I can get that? (My father had this on the bottom of his outboard tanks, that's how I know) |

Somebody posted on that a long time ago Todd, don't remember if it was WEFCO, TACO, or what, I'll have to see if I can find the post. I myself have used door edge trim from the local auto parts store back when I had a steel tank. (Comes in chrome, black, and clear, usually.)
