TOPIC: Homemade Outboard

Homemade Outboard 14 years 8 months ago #3874

Had an old Merc model 60 with a bad powerhead. Did some engineering and mated a new 6 HP Lawn mower engine to it. Its aircooled, Runs perfect and cost 75 bucks for the new engine from EBAY. Now I am an official Hill Billy HOOOOO WEEEEE.

A fair warning, lawnmower engines like B&S are meant to stay in an RPM band and will not be a durable choice for trolling and using it at variable speeds. With that said, thats one if not the best conversions I've ever seen. Not to mention, parts are very accesible and cheap. If that motor burns up, just replace it from another freebie from around town and you're back in action.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.“
