Mark,
I got the part today. No Problem on making these!!!!

How many do you need and do you want to drill the holes? "AS IN" are they all the same spacing?

Let me know how many you need and I will make you a full matching set.

Good deal, I need three for the bow and I'm adding two on each side like you see step pads sometimes, so a total of seven would be great. Since you have a wood shop, and I would have to use a hand held drill, would you mind drilling the holes? The same location as the sample would be fine on all of them. Just let me know what I owe you okay!?

PS - i can take care of sealer, or whatever you recommend in that department.

OK will do. I shall send them raw wood.

Will send a E-mail on cost.
Don't worry, no more cost than shipping them back.
It's my pleasure to make them for fellow Fiberglassics member.

Well thank you very much! I think your good karma just went up ;)
Seriously, I appreciate it greatly. Can you put a note in the box with the pieces on what you recommend for sealer? I'm thinking clear polyurethane, but you're the expert. They're going to look great on the Starflite, I'll post pics when I get them installed.

Heather, those are GORGEOUS, Thank You!. They're going to look perfect on the Starflite. Yes, you can send them back to the same address, that's where I work. It's safer there, some of the neighborhood kids get curious with packages on doorsteps before the "adults" get home. I'm putting a check in the mail to you next week to cover the return shipping and materials used, at the very least. Don't argue with me, I insist. :P If you ever need anything I can help with, please let me know.

OK, Thanks.... They were just wet with water in that photo. Don't stain them Walnut is a dark wood to start with. They just need, Oil, Wax or you can polyurethane them but make sure it's for outdoor use. Most Polyurethane you buy in the Home Depot is for non UV "Sunlight" aps.
Ask your local paint store/guy/girl for a Sun resistant poly. That is all I would put on it......

Good Luck and lets see them on the boat.

Heather the box came today, thank you so very much. They're perfect, and I plan to source some UV resistant Poly tomorrow. (Spent my lunch hour today getting a 1 3/8" socket for the flywheel nut on the Johnny, and the proper fittings for the water pressure gauge line.) I mailed your envelope Monday, please let me know when you get it.

Yea, I have one that fits the Merc700, and a 32mm I bought when I worked on VW's, also happens to fit the front spindle nuts on an 05 F150, (Thank Goodnes!) and several other biggies but not the one I needed. Isn't that the way it usually goes? I'm kinda like Tool Time Tim, you can never have enough tools. I just don't have the budget to get a big set all at once. We do what we have to for our projects, though, right. BTW, NAPA store had the socket for $17.95, impact style was the only one they had in 1/2" drive. Ouch.

I got the front three bow step cleats installed this morning before heading to the lake for test run #3. Promised I'd post pics and give props to Spookeay Marine............(Hope to get the sides done sometime soon, gonna be a little more tricky with the foam up under there!) PS - I "cheated" and used the new UV resistant Krylon polyurethane in a spray can.
Also, looking for suggestions on what to do with that hatch door in the front, you know they're not available anymore. That plastic looks like dookie anyway! :S

I donno, the wood would look good and match the trim, but the Glass would be more practical I guess. What do you think? The darn thing is riveted to the hinge, which is also riveted to the deck, just to make life more interesting. Going to have to be careful drilling those out! Please let me have your input.

Re:MarkS 14 years 8 months ago #4719

Mark, when you drill out the rivets, use a bit just a rtad larger than the rivet itself and just drill to pop the head off. Then remove the hinge and use a punch to push the remainder of the rivet through the hole. Simple, and no risk of drilling the hole too large for the next set of rivets to bite.

Thanks for the tip Doug. I had a little "issue" with cracking the backing when I did the same thing on the glove box door hinge. (Gotta learn when to power and when to "finesse".) The weight of the junk in the glove box had warped the door, had to put in a backing plate behind the hinge to true it up. (Used washers to correct the oops.) It's out of sight and up under the dash, so not a problem.

I'm not sure how we can relocate the latch assy to the new hatch door, Glass or wooden. Guess I'll pull the old one and send it to you Heather, maybe you can figure that out. Thanks for your help, everybody!

Hey Lady Spookeay,
I got the hatch door and frame assy removed intact. Is the offer still good on building a replacement? Think we'll go with the wood, if that's alright with you. I can send them UPS tomorrow, just let me know. I think I'll leave the door attached to the frame with the rubber hinge it currently has, but am also sending some stainless piano hinge for the rebuild, okay? We can figure out a different latch if necessary, I'll shoot some pics as soon as I get some batteries for the camera. (Course you'll have the original in a day or two!)

PS - I got the side step cleats mounted today, they look great! Thanks again for all your help.

Good deal, thanks for letting me know it made it okay. Whenever you have time to mess with it will be fine, Heather. The product in that catalog isn't the greatest, but the application guide and cross reference in the back come in handy when procuring other lines or used parts. ;)

Shot a quickie pic of the side step cleats, and one of the hatch cover door (actually the hole, whole hole, howl?) The tie down strap will now go over the steps to protect the finish on the boat!

They look great... But you know, "Laughing" I cant help but think your going to send me the entire boat Via UPS to restore for you......

Kinda like the old POW joke...

WWI pilot crashes and is taken to a POW camp.

First month he looses a leg... He asks "Please drop my leg over England so at least some of me will make it home if I don't survive the war." They say OK, we can do that.

Next month the gang green sets in the other and he says. "Please drop my leg over England so at least some of me will make it home if I don't survive the war." This goes on till his last arm is amputated. Again he asks "Please drop my arm over England so at least some of me will make it home if I don't survive the war."

At this point after 2 legs and 1 arm the German officer says in a thick accent.

No'z,,,,,, Not Zis time Captain. Vee think your trying to escape the camp!

Dang, she's on to my plan!

No, actually other than buffing and waxing, I'm about done messing with it (yea RIGHT!) until the off season this fall. I plan on enjoying the boat by using it until then. :P

The detailing articles were right on time, Thanks!

I DID see these led lights that would be great backlit cabin lights for night cruises.............
