My little West Highland buddy goes everywhere with me. But, as much as I want to take him on the boat, his well groomed toe nails would still scratch the varnish. Is there anything I can do besides leaving him at home or having scratched varnish or getting a different boat?

A couple of things.

1. The do make nail covers, quite often in bright colors.
2. They do make shoes (or heavy socks) for dogs.
3. My CC has vinyl sheeting on the floor, which is even more susceptible to damage than varnish (and trickier to repair). I use Lexan sheeting with spray non-skid to protect the vinyl from all sorts of traffic (including my dog)
