I couldn't stand it any longer so I ripped every stitch of wire from the Skagit the other day and also installed some gauges I had from another boat I parted out. I am a little disappointed that I didn't take the time to paint the area where the fuse panel is housed.I found some split loom cover that matches pretty well and am waiting for my cable clamps to arrive to secure everything.

Wiring rats nest

Okay not color coded but at least it is all marine grade wire.

Helm area as found.

Helm with newer gauges and newly painted steering wheel.

Another shot with original stove. Looking forward to that 1st cup of coffee.

MUCH cleaner now!

I've run in to some real rats nests when i've started working on electrical systems- Both in my boats, and when I used to work on boats for others... Usually, I find it best just to redo it all- That way you KNOW it's done right!

You should have seen the mess in my Glasspar- A mix of original wiring, a lamp cord thrown in here and there for good measure, and even one of those orange extension cords 'repurposed' for 12 volt service. It was all removed, and will be replaced with the proper 'stuff'...

My 58 Owens when I got it. A real mess. Tore it all out and re-did it. [img]http://www.fiberglassics.com/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images /100_0754.JPG Had 1 fuse with foil wrapped around it. Put all new swithes.

Many times it is easier and quicker to start over instead of trying to figure out someone else's mess.

Your new wiring job looks great Melanie, almost "mil-spec"! Great job. ;) (Yours looks good too Joe, didn't want you to think I was being "partial" )

Nice rewiring jobs!

I always wonder what goes thru peoples heads when they just add to the mess like in Melanie's first picture. Most boat's I have obtained have this mess. I always redo it, starting from scratch.

I'm ready for some cruising.

AMEN! I second that emotion.

My favorite is the "lamp cord" with the twist on nut connectors....wow. There must be a "fix ur boat wirin'" book that tells 'em how to do it, seems like it's everywhere. LOL

That is one nice neat wirering job ,Melanie. I like how you were able to find the same color loom. Also really nice to have the proper stove for the boat, real bonus. Keep up the good work. Skip.
