Just acquired this Lone Star Mustang, anyone ever see one in red? Its in decent shape, needs a transom and a little help with the gel coat. Anyone out there need a 50hp Chrysler that runs? Im gonna sell the Chrysler and put a 65 horse rude Triumph on it!

The transom saver did not save the transom ? Just kidding, looks like a nice project. The hull from the picture looks to be in great shape vs the usuall red ones that fade to pink. Man,that rear facing seat looks tight.Kids only!

LOL! No I was afraid the motor would fall off and take whats left of the transom with it, the wood is pretty much one, the rest of the boat is solid though, I even think the seats might have a season left in them. Its faded but not that bad. The only really bad parts are around the splash well where the old snap on cover didnt cover it. It looks like it was covered since new.

I think the motor is a '64 which Im guessing is original to the boat.

Chrysler bought the West Bend outboard motor line in 1965. So your Chrysler motor can be no older than a 1965.

There are at least two vintage Chrysler outboard websites out there. I am sure you can find the year via the model and serial numbers.

Chrylser also purchased the Lone Star Boat firm in 1965.

Thanks Andreas! I found a website and if they are right the motor is an '84. The model number is 507H4E.

Even though it looks like it is from 1964! LOL!!!

The boats Hull number is 14311080 if anyone has any insight into Lone Star hull numbers.

Re:Just dragged home a Lone Star Mustang! 13 years 10 months ago #27232

TN, why don't you just keep the Chrysler? I've got a 66, 50hp and I'm really happy with it. Parts aren't that hard to find with a little research. Once it's running good, keep it maintained and it will run forever. Nice looking boat!

The little Chrysler runs great, I just prefer OMC, its what I know, its what I have, and I can fix em when they break. Plus the 65 horse Evinrude I have in my garage, has a brand spanking NEW powerhead in it. It was put on probably 10 years ago and I have swapped it from project to project and never found the "right" boat for it. Its never been broken in. I think I found the "right" boat this time. Maybe! LOL!!

Is that a long shaft (20") motor, TN? You can put it in the Glassifieds, somebody will buy her. ;)

That is a Kainer 927 bow light. Fairly common and used by many, many boat builders.

I hope you still have your Mustang. I know the thread's been gone a while.

I have one just like it. They are great boats, and more fun than a sack full of puppies. I had a 1968 Evinrude 85 on it, (It's what I had.), then went to a 1973 85. This boat will handle almost anything you can hang on it, as long as it doesn't weigh over 300 lbs, which most modern outboards of any horsepower do. My current engine weighs real close to that. And I'm thinking about hanging my 1967 Evinrude 100 on the (new) transom. It checks in at 267 lbs.
Your Triumph 65 sounds ideal. They were great running motors

I've restored mine twice. It's known all over the lake.

Absolutely love the Chrysler ad! Makes me want to go out and get one, Captain lol.

The Mustang is a pretty cool boat. Now I want one of those too.

I had a Lonestar Mustang for 6 years. It was a fantastic boat. I had it out on the SF bay mostly, and even took it out in the ocean. It has a wide-flared bow and a foam-filled floor. Mine came with the original 60-horse Johnson, which was a reliable, large 4-cylinder engine. I did refurbish floors because I thought the foam was water-saturated. However I took the job too far - drilling a few holes in the floor and letting it ventilate during a hot summer month would have been fine.

That's my favorite boat I ever owned. BTW, the bowlight is basically chrome-plated pot metal. The estimates where a few hundred to clean it up and replate it. I have a ton of pics of mine, cherry red. It took weeks of wet sanding and polishing to get all the oxidation off. I remember pulling up to docks at the waterfront bars and the ladies would come down and compliment my 'cool' boat, while the dudes on the 40' cruisers would watch with envy. I think the bow-horn is a key element on those.

Hey Robert,

You aren't right! I am stil laughing like a fool over your comments. They're true and on spot. That's why we in the civilized eastern and middle parts of the state just close our eyes and shake our heads when western PA people speak. Just kidding!!!!! There are times when I can't understand some of the people from less than 30 minutes away from me here in the coal region.

A Buddy of mine lives in West Virginia and we always shoot this shit at each other. I told him last week the in WV Uncle Dad was an actual legal term. He is still laughing. We both know it's all in fun.

I'm rebuilding the floor/deck/sole of my 65 Lone Star Mustang... need a measurement from anyone who's got one with an intact footboard/bulkhead/don't know what it's called...

It is shaped like a bulkhead, and separates the main deck from the area in the bow which was probably intended for storage. Hoping someone has one and can provide a measurement for it's location - i.e. measure the distance from the transom.

Thanks, DMS in Mpls
