Brian, How would you go about rebuilding this lip joint? It's pretty much all shot. I was thinking of building a form and laying glass on it. Once cured, then glass it in from the inside of the boat. But that sure seams like a lot of work. What tricks if any have you used to build them?

OK, He's late tonight........:(

OK After slowing down and taking some time I think I see how to do this. :)

This lip is 2 parts cloth and one mat... A layer of cloth on top, mat in the center and cloth on the bottom. After some observation I note the top layer is the worse layer. So, I use my multi-tool and split them on the mat line and trim the top layer of cloth along the hull on the outside.. Then I remove the top layer and mat. After this, I have glassed mat & cloth over the old lower lip that still is there.

After all this is done, I turn the deck over. I sand away the old lower cloth and re glass, cloth and mat bringing it over and into the inside of the top half of the hull.

Does this sound ok???
I have never done one of these lip joints before. I am re inventing the wheel here..

Heather, I think you are on the right track. You know you have to grind anyway to get a good bond. Then, it's a matter of how you form the new to the old. I'm sure you will get it figured out after a few trials and errors!

Thanks Buba. Yes, as you can see there is some grinding going on! LOL
I feel like I have a handle on the issue now. I was just calling on Crosby becasue I know he has done some of these. This boat was just about to far gone when I got hold of it.

Well no, your not. I have not done much more to that one since that post. Am I doing it right? Or should I say "what would you do?" That is such a strange way to put a cap to a hull and I have no experience with this design..... But that was the 50's I guess.
