TOPIC: Help to Identify Frankenstein Boat

Help to Identify Frankenstein Boat 2 days 8 hours ago #149511

I just picked up this very unusual and I think highly modified runabout. It's 15 1/2 ft long and has a 64" beam. I think it started out as an outboard but is now a jet boat with a Buick 215 all aluminum V8. I don't see any manufacture label on the jet pump and the glass windshield has obviously been custom made and added. Can anyone tell me who made the hull and when and identify the make of the jet pump? Someone put a lot of effort into this boat and I bet it was a lot of fun in its day.

Luger kit boat. 1959 through early 60's. Released and sold as an outboard boat. I wrote an article for Boating World a long, long time ago with the history of Ren and Orm Luger and their company. I've got a copy of it somewhere if you are interested, but I've recently moved (Aug 25) and haven't started to unpack yet.

Lee,
Long time since I've seen a post from you. Are you still in Nisswa area?
During Covid I was driving a box truck for Lohse out of Esko & periodically got out to Brainerd, Nisswa, Walker, Bemidji way.

I hear AJ went full circle back to Twin Cities?

I'm still running the Shell Lake you wrote about.

That jet boat looks REALLY NEAT! Almost something I need.

Thanks Lee! You nailed it. I would like to see your article sometime. I grew up in a Mpls suburb.
Whoever built this boat had a lot of ambition. I'm still trying to figure out who made the jet drive.

Here's the article. It was written back in 1995. Whew! Long time ago. Jim...I moved from Nisswa last August to Backus, around 40 miles to the north from where I was. Traded the lake life for life on the farm, but no crops for me. Nice pole barn, second house for my daughter and her family, as well as a heated 3,000 sf workshop with A/C, plumbing, and kitchenette in the office portion. Also, can't forget the hen house and tree fort. Trying to settle down. Still deeply into boats. Working on a Chris-Craft 17 foot Sportsman. Almost done. Your boat is living proof of the lasting power of a boat well done and fanatically maintained!
