SO, our homeowners company is no longer offering policies in Michigan... a recent mail notified us that after next month..no more coverage.

My 1960 Glasspar G3 was insured under that policy. No more. To make matters worse insurance companies have gotten rather picky. None of them, at least so far, will insure the boat. Why? because it is too old! The last one said they won't insure anything built before 1965.

Has anyone else run into this? Any solutions?

Thanks..

I'm using Hagerty. They underwritten byt another company now but they're still insuring classic boats. I have my '60 Wagemaker na dmy '53 Century woody with them, including the trailers for both.

to me that is odd. you wouldnt find a company say any car is to old to insure. I mean the odds are still in their favor. I dont get it.

Glad to see a Michigander on here. Im from Flint area myself.

I've applied to Hagerty which also has my classic car insurance. So far they haven't turned me down.. they did request "comprehensive" photos of the interior and exterior of the boat. The boat is currently wrapped which makes interior pictures pretty much impossible. It's a 13' boat! Not much interior to take pictures of...

Longing for earlier days when things were much less complicated....

it's just for their reference in case there is a claim. I had them insure my 1963 Century Sabre and they needed photos of just about everything, fuel lines, fuel tank, filler, hose clamps, stuff box, bilge, etc. I would contact them and explain the situation for now and then agree to send pics in spring when you uncover. Their easy to work with.

They actually went with an agreed upon value on the Century Resorter because it's still being restored.

Now that's what I call long term insurance.

I have mine through American Family. I live in Wisconsin. All they asked for is year, make , and model and what I have for a motor. No pictures or anything. Granted it is only '59 Thompson, but it is for replacement value and is only about $60 a year. My Liability is through my Homeowners with the same company.

Add AAA to the growing list of companies that won't insure my boat. They will cover it if it's on my property, though only on a very limited basis. If it's on the water or at a marina/slip no coverage...
