TOPIC: Duranautic paint

Duranautic paint 2 years 8 months ago #146488

Hi i am restoring a 1980 Duranautic aluminum coastal 13. I was wondering what color and type of paint I should use. Also the bottom was painted with several coats of paint, I would like to use a paint stripper are there any that work better than others, also are there any i should stay away from so I don’t damage the aluminum? Thanks in advance

Pettit EZ Poxy Topside marine paint comes in a nice Seafoam Green.

Take off whatever comes off. What won't come off is well bonded and could be your base. . Any bare aluminum need to be primed with a self etching primer. There are some made specifically for aluminum.

Post pictures before and after.

You might want to check on that Pettit EZ Poxy Topside marine paint. Every can of Topside I ever used states that it is for above the waterline.

You're right Nautilus, they do say that. I think it's fine on a boat you are trailering rather than mooring. (probably fine on a boat you are mooring). I use it and haven't had issues, but opinions and experiences can vary.

thanks for the replies, it's good to know that the color is available. i might just leave bottom bare and paint above the waterline, but that won't be until the weather warms up. i took it out for a trial run today and my 9.8 merc pushed it pretty good. i was impressed with how fast it got up on plane and the stability of the ride was impressive for a 13 foot boat.
