TOPIC: Please help identify this boat

Please help identify this boat 3 years 3 months ago #143700

Hello all. Newbie here. First ever power boat project. I recently purchased this 15’ runabout and am looking for more info on it. It has no distinguishable markings on it. I was told it was a 1974 Glasspar. What are your thoughts?? It has a leather type strip on the bow that seems unique and haven’t seen before.

Welcome aboard, glad youe here. So I have to say I"m not familair with it but looks like a good project. A few boat companies used vinyl on the front decks of their boats, including some of the wood boat companies. I suspect it's vinyl with the chrome/stainless strips on the edges to prevent curling and peeling. Probably glued down with contact cement.

The "aftermarket" grab bar on the bow is generally used in handicap bathrooms. You'll want to remove it.

Thanks for the reply Notalis. Your input was Nothelpful. Tho I agree the bow grab bar looks like it toilet paper holder. From my research It is original to the vessel. Your comment as well has nothing to do with my post question. Thanks for the Notadvice.

Well, (self-confessed) Newbie...informing you that you have a bathroom grab bar on the bow of your boat and that it should be removed IS helpful. But what the hell do I know? I've only been restoring boats for 30+ years. So your extensive research has determined that it's original? You must have a photo to share, right? Well then, you've obviously identified the make and model of the boat and you no longer need any help with your original question anyway. Lose the attitude.

Well sir, if you think your bathroom hardware is original to the boat, then Nautilus' post was definitely helpful. It would appear you are used to forums that thrive on bashing one another, this is not one of them. This forum is full of knowledgeable, experienced and helpful people. Kindly rethink your attitude.
Cheers

I agree with every ones opinion as well, asking for help then being unfriendly with no sense of humor, not to mention my neck is sore from looking at sideways pics.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday but decided not to set him straight. But now that you guys all have......
Since you've determined the grab bar is OEM, tell us what brand is it?

Guys, settle down. Take it from an expert on back-end knowledge. I retired from the paper industry specializing in TP. and you people are so far off base.

A quick search brings up this picture of the bow bling. Unless the vessel was fabricated by Home Depot the chrome was not OEM.
It actually is a bathroom/shower hand hold. Stole this pic from HD website.

That being said I hope the original poster can find some hidden ID for the boat or research the state registration number.

Thanks for the help everybody. The reason I believed the grab bar was OG is, there is an identical boat in the yard that has that identical handle. Just thought it odd for two of the same boats from different lives to have the same exact handle.

since the boat is a lapstrake boat. You may want to look at MFG, Thompson, fiberglass Lymans, even Chris Craft made some lapstrake boats, but not sure if they made fiberglass lapstrakes ? If I had to guess ? because of what looks like a vinyl strip down the middle on the fore deck ? I'm thinking late 60's into 70's ? But I am far from a boat manufacturing expert ? Maybe this will jog some members memories to help you out ?

I assume that identical handle was also your reason for being rude, judgemental and remaining non-apologetic.

Was my last post censored? Thought you might have been a supporter of free speech Nautilus?
