TOPIC: End caps on transom

End caps on transom 5 years 10 months ago #138913

Still working on the '59 Catalina. Temps don't get above freezing much this time of year in northern Colorado, but the shop is heated so life goes on.
Except for the upper windshield, I thought that the boat was complete when I bought it. I did notice that the hull/deck joint was exposed at the transom, but I did not think that was much of a deal. Now I find out that there were (maybe?) supposed to be a cap on the end of the little "fin" back there. Attached is an example I found on a Dorsett boat on the California Glassics site.
Anyone know if my '59 Catalina is supposed to have these, and if so, any idea how I could find a pair?

Thanks

Hi Bill,
Yes, the 59 Dorsett Catalina has cast aluminum handle caps on each side. The left one has the boat serial number stamped on it. They also capture the end of the rub rail. Google images of 59 Dorsett Catalina and you will find more photos. They do show up for sale on eBay once in awhile. Here are some photos of my handles before restoration and now.
