TOPIC: trim cylinder rebuild

trim cylinder rebuild 6 years 1 week ago #138488

hello and merry Christmas, i have a few days now and i wanted to try to rebuild my leaking trim cylinder . i myself haven't seen anything on rebuilding trim cylinders so here we go. now mine is a mercury 1150 el and it took some time to find the actual rebuild kit. but mercury has on their website archive manuals i scrolled through several before i found the correct year. then dropping through the pages i found the cylinder diagram and parts list . they had it listed , one was for a 3/4" shaft and one for a 1" shaft . i went out and calibrated my shaft and it came up 3/4" or .750 inches

i ordered two for both cylinders from mr. Joe Poole my boat guy, and i also had to find a spanner wrench i didn't want to wait for ebay so i went to summit racing here in Mcdonough ga found what i needed. I'll get more pictures as i start the project but for now here is the "gland nut wrench" ill also have the part numbers when i make sure that's what i need.
ok back kit number 64507A1 and the removal pictures the wrench pins were bigger than the holes in the cylinder some have drilled the holes in the cap to match the pins in the wrench , i didnt want to do that the pins are removable so i put them in the drill and then spun the pins and ground them to fit the correct size holes. just a tip. then it was just removing the cap and now i am waiting on the kits.

Wow that looks good ! I'm liking that adjustable spanner wrench too. I'll have to get me one of those.
