TOPIC: small boat, transport long distance options

just wondering if any of you have purchased a small boat up to 16 ft or so where a long distance is involved. what have you done ? looking into ? or felt might be the best low cost methods.

Other then driving round trip yourself to get it and tow it back.
Any companies you would recommend etc?
I have looked at renting a uhaul truck, one way as a possibility.

I have had good luck with yesterdaystractors on the hauling schedule on left,,you deal direct with person,,might catch some one filling a dead run,,free to ask then deal with it but everything is expensive,ask about insurance,,Bill

I had a boat picked up in Idaho and delivered to California on a flat bed. Was about $800. Now, if the trailer was sound and able to be towed, I could have gotten a better price. I used ubid.com. Also, by the time I decided I was going to get the boat, it had turned into late fall and not nearly as many shipments were going through.

My Wife and I transported our 1960 Glasspar Seafair Sedan from Traverse City, Michigan to Wilmington, N.C. on our 24' Kaufman Flatbed Trailer a few years ago. I have a 10,000lb. winch on the flatbed and basically just pulled the entire boat, motor and trailer up and onto out flatbed. We then strapped everything down real well and made the trip. The trailer that was under the boat at the time was a 1950 "Sentinel" with the old coil springs under it! Also, it has those real small 10-12" trailer tires and I did not trust those for the distance we were going!

I was looking at some of the boats in the sightings forum very cheap but add in transportation it just is too much sadly. I will have to just keep an eye out close to home Richmond VA
