TOPIC: Question or advice on motor selection

I have a 1959 Larson all American with a 500 merc on it, but it is a long shaft motor and I need a short shaft. Anyway I found a 1967 Johnson 100 hp golden meteor for not much money but no controls and needs work. Any advice as to if it is too much motor weight wise, or any experience with the selecteamatic shift?? Good or bad I want to make a good rescission.

The golden meteor is a sweet running motor if it is tuned up right. Carbs are usually not to be messed with. First generation CDI are not very reliable, I converted to a regular point ign on mine. Select shift controls are pricey but available on ebay. There are a few people on this site with those motors and I can give some limited help since I sold my boat with that motor a few months back. It is heavy, somewhere in the 200+ range.

Heavier and probably at least 25-35% overpower.

I wouldnt put the 100hp on your Larson
