Well, it started out a good Day... On my '68 Glastron V-156, I usually insert a piece of 1x3x12 wood in the tilt while traveling. I found out the hard way, what happens when I forget to take it out before I go to WOT... Yep, the wood snapped and the motor pivoted down and slammed against the transom mount... I think the quick fix is gonna be to seal it with silicone, put a piece of 3/4 treated plywood on the in inside, and a piece of something thinner on the back outside, and bolt them through... I'm only using a 35hp motor... I'm not sure I'm ready to do a full transom rebuild on this boat... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Ouch!

You might consider a piece of 'closed cell rubber' (a sheet bigger than the footprint of the new found cracks) to act like a gasket between the transom and your piece of 'something thinner on the outside'. My thought is the silicone might shrink over time but if you have a full face gasket in place it could flex with the transom or motor mount if anything moves around.

I recall getting some from our local MSC that was 1/8" thick and 3-4 feet wide for under $10 a foot (cut to length).

Are you serious? You have a major problem there called "rotten a$$". Putting a band aid on it would get you to shore but squishy silicone? Better put a chain on the motor and bolt it to the gunwale so when the motor falls off you can retrieve it. Put a new transom on it and be safe for you and anyone else aboard.
