Well I came across a deal I couldn't pass up so I purchased a Homelite Grand Prix 55 hp model 460A2E 2266*** serial. It came complete with all controls and even a spare prop. It defineately needs cleaned up and all new hoses, impeller and a carb rebuild etc. I know I want to change over to the Pertronix ignition and will be needing new impellers etc. I was wondering if anyone had any advice, oil grade, octane fuel etc and part #'s for the carb kits and pertronix kit to get me started. I figure $125 wasnt too bad even if i have to totally rebuild it.

I just want to say that I appriciate all of the help I have been getting from y'all. Hopefully we can get a time where some of us will be on the GlassicChat.

Nick,
I have everything you need for the Homelite.
I'm in Paris on business today, and heading to Africa tonight, back 30JUL I think, let's talk when I get back and get you fixed up.
Can you post pics of the powerhead from port and stbd sides? If an original E model it will have recirculating cooling system.

Well I tore it down and it was probably a good thing. Much of the coating in the water jackets had peeled off clogging the coolant passages and all the gaskets were dry and cracking, the carbs defineately needed rebuilt. But the good news is that the bearings had extremely little wear and the cyl. walls still had the hone markings on them.
