TOPIC: Princecraft Flyer/Wizard Wasp/Trueski

Princecraft Flyer/Wizard Wasp/Trueski 9 years 6 months ago #111676

May have plowed this ground before, but can anybody shed some light on the evolution of the three boats? IIRC, the only Trueski known was the one TommyinTampa had. Is he still active on the board?

I have a Princecraft Flyer, acquired from Quebec via Ephrem Desjardin.

and there's a Wizard Wasp on ebay right now:

The only info I can find on the Flyer is this link - an ad from April 1960:

news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1946&dat=19600402&id=GbEtAAAAIBAJ&sjid=uZwFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3824,321447&hl=en

The only info on the Wizard Wasp in the Fiberglassics Library shows an artists conception of the Wasp in the 1960 brochure - no indication that it was made prior to that.

pic 1: Tommy's Trueski - note the scallops in the fins

pic 2: My Flyer - same scallops

pic 3: somebody's Wasp - no scallops in the fins, but otherwise appears identical

Sorry Bill, I can't shed any light on the evolution of the Prince Craft/Wizard Wasp.
I have both the 2 and 4 seated Wizard Wasp. My 2 seated Wasp is the one used as an example by the seller on eBay.

welcome back Bill....I know nothing about the wasp, except it's one very cool design....princecraft, it would seem back in those years may have "barrowed" some "ideas" from other builders so I doubt they were the first design....john

The Wizard Wasp was introduced in 1957.

Thanks Andy. Looks like the Wasp came first, and Princecraft copied it and modified it.

What about "True Ski"? Is that a brand anybody has documentation on?

And was there any link between Wizard and Reinell? I ask because some of the Reinell designs look very Wasp-ish.

the first pic is in my files as a 1956 Reinell:

the second pic is a 1958 Reinell Jetabout:

and the third pic is from my files labelled as a nine foot Whitehouse, but I suspect it is a Reinell:

I think that was my dads boat bought back in 1960 with a 40hp Scott then he put a 1971 60 hp evinrude . We sold it back in the 80s a neighbour bought it then it was sold without the engine via theo marine all in Quebec.
