TOPIC: Can anyone identify this boat for me?

Can anyone identify this boat for me? 9 years 8 months ago #108363

Hi all! I came across this boat sitting in a junk yard along with a bunch of classic cars. I'm not really a boat person and I have never tried to restore one, but to be honest, I am quite taken with it and wouldn't mind seeing it on the water again. Can you tell me if it's a collectible boat and if it would be worth the trouble of restoring? You can't see it from these pics, but the wall on the back of the cabin seems to have been broken off on the right side and I don't know how the hull is where damage is concerned. I think it would make a great father/son project.

Thanks, Kevin

Well it's not collectible (generally). No tail fins, average styling. Plan on a new bulkhead, floor, transom, paint job, seats, etc. Probably also stringers and frames. Also looks like it needs a new trailer and motor. You won't be able to recoup the cost of materials, but it could be a fun project for your family if you have the time and a budget that will allow you to make it your own.

No clue as to the make. Lots of boat makers had a cruiser model to top off their line.

I also do not have a clue, but the hood scoop looking thing seems to ring a bell... and the emblem on the side may be a clue as to the make. It almost looks like a Mopar "Forward Look" emblem.

Thanks!

Jay

Welcome aboard.
Since you spotted it in a used car lot :) it's a no brainer.
No doubt it's a 1956 Dodge Royal Lancer or a Plymouth Fury, see below.

You could low ball the seller then post those emblems on ebay and probably get back the price you paid for the boat.

It's looks very interesting, somewhat like a Dorsett or a del Mar. I would buy that boat, assuming I could get it for a couple hundred dollars. Don't worry too much about the make...that could be determined later. It's a worthy project and should be saved. If you decide to pass and it's anywhere near South Carolina, let me know.

You need to put things into perspective. By comparison, the restoration would be easy.

It can be long drawn out project. If you have the time for a Father/Son project of that time and length I'd go for it. Since it is a first project maybe something smaller with less problems may be the key. Look her over good.

If I had time, money and an understanding wife ( ;) ), I'd get it, repaint it green, power it with a Chrysler and name it "Sonoramic Commando". But, I have very few of the above, if you know what I mean.
