TOPIC: Can I use a 5hp 2 Stroke Outboard to run this Boat

Hi Guys,

Firstly, my original post was to identify this boat, well all I can find is that it was first registered in 1980 as a Pongrass! It is 15ft Long, and has a good deep V Hull, but I want to know if I can push it around the rivers and small inlets using a 5hp 2 stroke Outboard?

My days of speeding around are long gone, and i just want to cruise around from one spot to another to catch a few fish!

I used to have a 14ft Dinghy powered by the old Seagull outboard and never had an issue cruising around.....I am hoping that this boat can be pushed with a 5hp?

It won't break any speed records. I push a 15 foot Winner with a Honda 4 stroke and it goes pretty good. I used a 6 hp Johnson 2 stroke on a small 12 footer once with surprising results.

As long as the river isn't too powerful, it shouldn't be a problem.
My 6 HP Evinrude kicker easily pushes my 1400 lb. 17' Starcraft. (on a lake)

Add an extra dash of oil to the mix for peace of mind. I've ran 50:1 kickers at 32:1 for quite some time, no issues.
