I really need to get mine out and clear it's throat. After rebuilding the carb, syncing and setting the low idle mixture I am seeing the bottom 2 cylinders 3 and 4 loading up/wet with fuel. This motor sat for 12 years before it was given to me and it starts and runs. After running for a while in a barrel it starts to run rough and stalls. Sometimes it starts right up. The times it won't start, I will let it sit overnight and it fires right up.

Running it in a barrel and not being able to blow it out may be the cause. I have not messed with the high speed fuel mixture yet. Is there something I need to take a look at. Reeds?

Makes me wonder if the seal between 3 and 4 is leaking. It might clear up after a good run wets down the bearings and seals.

I like the big motors too. I see a need of me setting up a boat were I can swap out the motor quickly. With a low rear deck so I can tweak on the motors. Humm... I just happen to have am old bass boat that will be prefect.

I have the same engine. Getting out in the open water will help. Setting the high speed jets and synchronizing needs WOT. IMHO :-)

After clearing her throat, it ran great at wot. She started to load up on the short trip back to the ramp. Low speed jets probably not set right. Gonna pull the needle and check the seals.

There is a video in here somewhere.

I think the problem is solved. I pulled the low idle needles and it appears that even though they were all there the seals were not being squeezed enough by the spring and washer. I had a pair of the plastic ones and added them to the stack and reinstalled. She fired right up and I was able to keep it idling in the barrel. Headed to the lake tomorrow for more fun.

I removed the intake and reeds yesterday. I may have found the problem. One set of leaf valves for the gas overflow was plugged and the other set was on its way. I am not sure what caused it. There is a possibility that someone had it apart and installed the valve retaining plate upside down closing off the opening. None of the overflow fuel on 2 and 4 cyl was getting through possibly causing the flooding at low idle.
