TOPIC: Where to get control cables? What to get?

Where to get control cables? What to get? 10 years 5 months ago #97870

This is not a picture of my cables, just one I found on the internet. This is what I need. I need 12-14' control cables to run from a Bosun throttle/shifter.

Can someone help me identify what these are called and where to get them?

I'm "in the same boat" as you...

Look on Ebay. They pop up fairly regularly, but it seems that the cables tend to be the limiting factor in usability/value. I haven't gotten too serious about replacing my cables yet, so I can't offer the best advice. Others will surely chime in with more info. Teleflex also makes replacement cables but I haven't figured out yet how to order them and replace the end pieces for my 35 hp Johnson.

Here's an example of an Ebay listing...

Yes, I can find used ones. I want new cables. The picture is actually
one I stole from Ebay.

So, this is what I found and plan to purchase:

Cable, CC170XX
Connector kit, K24 and K51

The cable is really common. Jamestowndistributors has them and has good
reference material on the cables.

The connector kits seem a little more hit or miss. Try go2marine and nicksoutboardmarine.

Please note I have not purchased from these dealers, just listing them for online reference.

DJ,

Do you intend to use the new cables with a vintage control box with vintage levers? If so, please keep us posted on your successes. I will likely need to do the same in a few months and I would love to pick up some pointers on cable length, how to connect at the control box end, etc.

Thanks,

Cron
