Went to buy 2 Gales, a 5hp and a 3 hp and ended up with 2 of each.
Got one of the 5 hp motors freed up and running today, the other 3 hp is freed up now but no spark.... (Break fluid is god for froze up motors) I'll check the condenser for a part # and check out the point tomorrow for the freed up 3 hp.. Bear with me as I am keeping this post as a log for information I need to reference.

I think I found the Condenser and point kit (part#'s Kit 72810, points 70070, condenser 70570, and Coil 72100.

These parts are for the johnson 3 hp 1952-1968. I am pretty positive that the points and condenser will work from this list, not sure if the coil will, however work on the gales...... More research needed......

Hi,
Here are a couple of pictures of the new coils (taken when we sold some) which might make a comparison easier.

Regards,
Joe

Thanks Poole, the 3 hp is a 48-50 sea king 94GG909A, has a strange looking point settup, that I've never ran into before (as I have little motor experience). Has the plastic rod that rests against the cam portion of the crank and open and closes the point. The coil looks to be in good shape I may have to get a light and test the coil as the plug wire is soldered to the coil and the wire portion is in rough shape.... The 3 hp is complete so I plan on getting this one running and freshening up the paint and decals on this one.

The 49GG is a 1949 year built(reverse the #s on Seakings for year built). Does it have a long round coil. NOA new.

I may have a set. I have a few sets however I have not tested them yet. Time to pull the Mercotronic down and get to checking
