TOPIC: 59 35 hp Golden Jubilee, Couple problems

59 35 hp Golden Jubilee, Couple problems 10 years 9 months ago #91128

Well it runs. I'm sure I put the right amount of oil but I had a few squirts of atf in the cylinders for the winter. It's putting out water. It does not seem to run real good. I have to play with it some. Any suggestions? Also the one that bothers me is when in forward it comes out of gear. What do I need to replace? Thanks in advance. I have not played with a two stroke in years. It also does not want to rev up well.

I do have it running much smother than these vids after about 10 minutes of running but still seems to be too much oil.

Running lean or possibly running on one cylinder.

Every time I start it it smokes less. ATF is a good penetrating oil. I put it in a year or so ago. Just a few shots. I will check and make sure I got fire at both plugs.

Glad to see you got her running Robert, good for you! It takes my OMC's a pretty good while to burn out the "pickeling oil" every spring. Did you tell us you rebuilt or cleaned out the carb/fuel system?

Pump, Carburetor and all new lines. I brought it back in the house after working with it yesterday. I'm concerned about it working out of forward. It does not pop right out but you can see it slowly slip out. If one cylinder was not firing properly that would also account for some of the smoke would it not. Of course it is much quieter with the hood on. Since it is a hand choke I might put a starter button right on the outboard with the relay inside. I'll install a kill switch up front.

The popping out gear was a problem with some of those. I had one I fixed up a Looooooooong time ago. If I remember the bottom of the gearcase just splits apart and it's really simple. Once you take that puppy apart you will probably find a worn thig-a-ma-jig that is easily replaceable. Seriously, I can't remember what I did but it was a part that was available at a local OMC dealer and cheap.

Here's a video that should help.
