TOPIC: Prop Questions

Prop Questions 10 years 9 months ago #90945

Hey guys,

It finally got into the 30s outside yetserday, so I decided to go out and pull some maintenance on my 1962 40hp johnson.I Pulled the lower unit to reseal the gearcase and to also install a new impeller.

Ive never had the prop off this motor before, so i never checked to see what pitch i was actually running. when i looked, i realized that the prop i ran all last year is a michigan wheel prop. There is not a standard pitch stamped into the prop hub, like most others. all that is stamped is , "PJ 30". does anyone know what pitch this prop is?

I have a spare 10 3/8" x 12 prop also. Does anyone know how the michigan prop compares to my spare?

Funny thing is that i only live 20 minutes from the michigan wheel building in grand rapids , MI. I drive by it often. Im thinking about stopping in to see if they can tell me anything about the prop specs.

Thanks!
Scott

I believe the standard prop was 10.375 X 14".

If that motor sees a heavy load you'd want less pitch. PropCo sells a prop for that motor for Pontoon boats.....11" X 9".

Hey Scott, here's a link to a Michigan Wheel prop chart you might find helpful;
