TOPIC: Problems with 77 Evinrude 15 HP

Problems with 77 Evinrude 15 HP 11 years 4 weeks ago #86757

Hello,
I have a 1977 Evinrude 15 HP motor that I purchased earlier this year. When I first got it, I was able to get it started and I took it out a few times, it worked good. Now when I start it, it starts up but in order to keep it running I have to have full throttle and play with the choke, otherwise it dies. Any ideas? I have replaced the hose between the fuel pump and the carb so that I can see that fuel is getting to the carb. I also replaced the clamps on the hose going to the fuel pump and I a have replaced the spark plugs.
Thanks,
Chris

Ya got crap in the carb. Yank it and pull the bowl and clean out all jets, orifices, etc. Just fixed a neighbors lawn mower. Start, but soon quit. Piece of chit stuck in the main jet.

I just picked up the same motor also! Kinda collecting the great 2 cycles, as they simple aint made anymore. Have the 15, a 9, a 6 and a 2hp Mate Rudes, JRudes, 5.5 couple 3 "Weedless", and 3 small boats (beside the 20 footor and my Merc Flatbottom), a 12 alum rowboat, 10 foot Fiberglass Olympian dingy, and a Minimost I'm restoring. I'll never get bored "which boat today?"

Well, I have not gotten into the carb on my 1977 15 HP motor yet, maybe tomorrow. Yesterday, I bought a 1955 Johnson 10 HP ($75) for my 54 Trailorboat Klamath. Its in really good condition for an old motor. I need to buy all of the tuneup parts...
