Hi again guys, my '58 35 Lark has a 5" extension bolted to it. I believe it was originally a 'short shaft'. To use it on a short transom, what is necessary to convert it back? Can I just remove parts, or do I need a short shaft and/or other parts? Thanks for any help...

You will need a another drive shaft.

The water tube extension is just pushed on to the reg tube.

the sift rod can be cut down and filed

I have 4 or 5 1957 shafts (I think 57 were the same as 58) if you need one.....and maybe a sift rod

If the motor was built as a long shaft You will need a new short shift rod and you will need to cut 5" off the water tube. If it was converted the water tube and shift rod extensions can be easily removed. In either case you will need a short shaft driveshaft.

Thank you for the replies, I will check to see if it has rod & tube extensions. I may have a short shaft from a '55 BigTwin, I wonder what the chances are, that that would fit...??? Thanks again

If you do not think that you would ever use the extension set up, there are people looking for the one. You could post an ad on the AOMCI site for a trade. They send you what they have in trade for what you have.....Most would jump on that like a Duck on a June bug

Thanks for the info guys, I stumbled upon another '58 Lark parts motor with a short shaft setup, so hopefully I'll have most of the stuff to interchange...

The '58 Lark and '58 Big Twin use different lower units and driveshafts. Not sure the shafts are interchangeable due to placement of the waterpump keyway.

Thanks for the info...It looks like the drive shaft will pull out without dismantling the gearcase, is this true, or is there a retainer inside the case? Thanks

Thanks for the reply... Does anyone know if the 5" extensions interchange? Like for instance, would a '57 35hp extension kit fit a '55 25hp...???
