No, not good.Is it in lower unit oil or your exhaust and 2 stroke oil. You may have a gasket that is shot on your lower.

FWIW I agree Skip. My guess (although it's hard to tell from here) is gear lube coming out the weep (drain) holes. I have seen them do that after the first fire up when the motor has been "winterized" (fogging oil), but you were out running the motor, right? (Read the post about the re-launch.)

I would put the motor in the full down position, let it sit for a few days to let everything settle. Then pop the drain plug on the lower and see what comes out. Water will settle to the bottom, and ANY sign of milky oil spells trouble! I'd be willing to bet there's a gasket or seal leaking somewhere in the lower, as Skip stated.......Hope not though. Just my two cents, HTH.

First what oil/gas mix are you running, how long did you run the motor after it has been sitting up.

It could be a bad seal. or it could be unburned 2 cyl oil. (being it is black make me think it is unburned oil)

I would drain the LU as to see if there is any water in it. If not replace, and run the motor again. If it happens again recheck the LU oil

I would say it unbernt oil it black. Lower unit oil doesn't turn black.
You could have gas mix wrong or be running a little rich.
Lower unit could have water in it but that don't turn black.
I see that kind of black oil on a lot of motors I have run.

I'm getting black oil / carbon all over in the test tank. My motor is a 1961 and has been run on old oil at 20:1 ratio. Since I've been revamping it I have used Amsoil Sabre 100:1 mixed at 70:1 ( the Amsoil tech said 80:1 would be fine). And have been doing the Sea Foam decarb treatments before I take her to the lake next Sunday. I got all kinds of black stuff everywhere. I think I need to take her to the lake, do the Sea Foam areosol treatment, and blow her out @ 3-4K rpms. Seems lots of stuff builds up in 50 years at 20:1 with old formula oils. JMHO

Looks like the Ams and Seafoam are cleaning the old exhaust deposits from the exhaust system. I see it now and then with some of my old motors which I always run with Seafoam and synthetic oil.

The motor had been sitting for years
I've had it out twice and am running 50 to 1
Penssoil marine. 1 pint per 6 gal.
And the first two tanks I did use a half ca. Of
Sea foam per tank
The stuff coming out is a diluted oily / water mix ?

Mine does that. Both of the 75 johnsons have always done it and it's worse if the motor idles a lot before it is shut off or if you run a 24/1 mix. I think it's just unburned two cycle oil. My two cents.

I just got off the phone with the guy who did some work on it for me.
Pat over at Vintage Outboards in Arvada
I`m told it is pretty normal , due to its age and the time it sat.
and he confirmed that the seafoam is agrivating the sittuation.
by breaking up all that old goo. and passing it through the seep holes, thats were the un used oil drains.
So,,,I`m feeling better, he said nothing to worry about !!
Thanks again for all the feed back, I trully appreciate it !!
