TOPIC: Oil Capacity: 1968 Starflite 100 lower

Oil Capacity: 1968 Starflite 100 lower 12 years 7 months ago #61206

I know the 1966 is about 3/4 quart. On the 68 the top drain plug is raised another few inches allowing more oil. I put in a full quart and it never did start to run out the top.

If 3/4 of a quart was ok in 66 I assume a full quart would be plenty, but just wondering what it calls for.

My '73 Johnson V4 takes a few ounces less than a quart to fill, the '78 Evinrude V4 takes a few ounces more than a quart. I just figured it was because the '73 is a "PowerShift II" and has a hydraulic pump down there on the prop shaft to aid in shifting, probably takes up some volume of the oil capacity. I'd be willing to bet you're within a few ounces of being full, WT75. I'd sure get some more lube and make sure she's full, though. Just my two cents worth, I don't have any first-hand knowledge on the '68 stuff.
