TOPIC: Sad News... 25 lbs. in #2

Sad News... 25 lbs. in #2 13 years 1 week ago #52090

That's what my "gifted" mechanic said. But, he doesn't think it is hurt too bad by looking at the spark plug and it still runs. It's a 2000 Evinrude 150 direct injection that I have had for 5-years of blissful use. Should I tear it down and get the entire powerhead re-manned? Should I buy a working powerhead and swap it out? Should I sell the whole damn thing? Should I part it out until I have enough money to buy a different motor?

Apparently there were problems with lubrication system and the #2 cylinder was first to suffer.
You likely will not get much for it even for parts.
Too new / too finely tuned and running at the limits.
Anything wrong and the motor goes
ppoooofff.
Pull the head and maybe it is something simple.

Phil, My son would know if there is any mechanical weak history on that motor , as He use to work for the co..1) Last summer I helped my neighbor with a jeep engine one weekend , as similar , running engine ,but noise knock.. It turned out to be a chipped or cracked piston, side of the skirt broke away.

2)son had the small plastic oil feed line come off or break at the fill tank in their 250 cc ATV on a long ride & hurt the cyl.... Also recently my neighbor was chain sawing at our house . after two tanks of gas , I noticed his BAR OIL feed was still full..! Like the other posters , a fail safe method for a big expense & delay is just pre-mix a engine , or monitor the oil LEVEL daily that it is droping down on the scale.

Let us know what you find out of the winter.

I think I'll pull the head off and take a look. Probably just see the top of the piston.
