GANG.:: I saw a motor today, that is not very familiar.. I was buying the speedster in the foreground, so was not arroused by the Sea King fishing boat with calif reg,,, BUT the outboard ( Sea King) cowl had a quite pointy , speed lower unit. (?) I thought the
decal on back said 50 HP as at least 16 ft deep vee, cable steering boat. . There was a two lever Ship Master box in the center of boat.(?) could have just been a spare.?

Any ideas what brand / mfg for this Sea King. GALE family. or a big Elgin.

Actually, they weren't bad motors in their time. They were no better or worse than similar motors of the era. My Dad raced the 35s in "36 Class" back in the day and even set a world record with one. Strong runners! If they were as bad as folks say, they wouldn't have remained in business, in one form or another, well into the 1990s. The bigger issue is parts availability 50 years afterwards. Some ingenuity can help find basic consumables like waterpump impellers, carb kits, fuel pump bits and ignition components.

It only " looks " to be a speed lower unit
Think about it, if a pointy lower unit is all it takes to get free speed than every new motor today would have them ---But they do not !!!!
