TOPIC: evinrude no wot

hi, iam helping out a friend and he has a 1961 lark 3 40 hp. the impeller , plugs, points , condensors have been replaced, the carb was gone thru by a local omc dealer. new fuel pump . tryed a different fuel tank and hose. it runs fine from idle to 3/4 throttle, but falls on its face at wot, then you have to pull it back to idle, and then you can get 3/4 throttle again, but will run all day at 3/4. need help bad. any ideas? thanks frog

Run with a timing light hooked up

See what happens to the light at full throttle , intermittant flash means ignition issues.

Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more with a snap you can hear.

I know you said the carb has been gone through and fuel pump but still could be a fuel problem. Run the motor with the hood off and try opening the high speed jets a half trun and it the that makes a differnce open till the motor starts to lug down the trun back a 1/4 turn at a time till she run wot. You can't set the high speed in a barrol or test tank has to be done out on the water.

If the float is set to low it will run out of fuel at wot
