TOPIC: 74 evinrude 40 missing off idle??

ive got a norseman 40 that is missing right off idle. ive adjusted the low idle and it idles fairly good and runs real good wide open. It has a dead miss right off idle. Any suggestion how to fix??

So do a compression test and check to see that you have spark that will jump a gap of 5/16" or more on both cylinders.

Once that information is known ( proper results )you can look for adjustment issues.

Testing / trouble shooting is the way to go.

If the compression and spark tests come out satisfactorily, you may try increasing (back out) the idle mixture screws 1/4 turn. (Just make note of where they were when you started.) If that helps but doesn't eliminate the problem, repeat above proceedure. When problem is gone, turn screws back in 1/8 turn at a try to maintain maximum economy. (Keeping in mind too much fuel is always better than to little! Lean mixture = trouble eventually.)

Only one carburetor on it and only one idle adjustment screw.
