TOPIC: Source for outboard motor parts

Source for outboard motor parts 13 years 11 months ago #22411

I'm in the process of trying to restore a 1967 Johnson 100 HP outboard and will need quite a few parts. The whole restoration depends on my being about to find new cylinder sleeves. Does anyone have a good source for parts for these old engines?

This may be a shot in the dark, but if you have a local Johnson dealer that was in operation in the 1960s, you may be able to get some stuff through them. My local dealer had a key that fit my 64 40hp.

Cherokeehillstradingpost is selling out an old marine parts inventory on ebay. They have there phone posted on there auctions. Call them with your part no.s info and they will sell them to you at discount prices. If they have them.

You can find another block or oversized pistons for less than it will cost to sleeve that motor. Sleeves are raw cast iron with no ports. The block is bored out to allow the sleeve to be pressed into place. Then the ports are carefully milled using the original port patterns as a guide. Then the sleeves have to be properly bored and finish honed. It's a lot of work & very expensive. In all of the outboards I've torn into, only 1 had ever been re sleeved. Very nice repair, but very costly.

It all depends on where you live ???
Used parts as in blocks / cranks / pistons are plentiful in some areas of the land.
