TOPIC: water in lower unit

Hey fellas, I 've got water in my lower unit. 63 75hp electric shift. Would like to know the most likely place the water could come in ? I checked around the prop shaft, no oil. How common is it for water to get through the drive shaft under the water pump. I'm thinking that could be a possibility. Any thoughts?

Best way to find the leak is to pressurize the unit and submerge it - look for bubbles.

4 seals on the screws that hold the retainer on the propshaft, -O-ring there as well. Propshaft and driveshaft seals.

I put a seal kit in it 7yrs ago and have another seal kit ready to go. But I might have a groove worn in one of my drive shafts so I'll try what Scott recommended to determine my leak.I hope I don't have to separate the gear case from the cavitation plate if I can avoid it. I have a parts engine with less wear (looks like),so I have shafts.Thanks, jim

I have lots of spare lower units and shafts as well.

Hey professor - got any good blocks for a '54 fastwin 15hp? I'm tearing one down now for rebuild, and the block is questionable given a rusted in place piston and a snapped off head bolt....
