My friend just picked up an 18 ft power cat with twin 1966 Evinrude Larks. Electric shift. One has an extra letter at the end of the model #. Does that indicate counter rotating?
Also, he is looking for two electric shift control boxes. What years fit those engines and where might we start looking to purchase two control/shift boxes?
Thanks for the help. Mike in sunny Oregon

What HP are the Larks?
I have a complete electric lower unit, shifter, and control box for a '63 75HP. Not sure if it's the same or not.

They are not counter-rotating. Never made them like that. The variance in the letter at the end of the model number is simply a notation meaning something minor was changed in the model run. Nothing to worry about - might be a simple as a change made in length of a bolt used in the waterjacket - who knows....

I believe the electric-shift control box is the same for all 1968 and earlier electric shift motors but the part number for the whole assembly does change from 1963 to 1966. Check out this link for the part manuals:

www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php

According to the above website, 40372 is a 1963 Evinrude 40HP, not 1966. You might like to check out old-omc.de/ for help in confirming the year with the original Evinrude literature.

I also happen to have one Evinrude Selectric controller for sale, $20+shipping, photos in the Glassifieds section:
