TOPIC: Boat wont start

1973 Glastron Sportster 156 with a 1976 Evinrude 40 HP outboard, took family out on the lake last Saturday kids were fishing went to start the motor to move to another place on the lake and,,,,,,,,, nothing, almost hit rocks on shore but paddled it to middle of the lake and a nice boater towed us back to the dock thought maybe neutral safety switch? I don't know where to start battery is charged and power to the motor but when the key is turned nothing happens if anyone can please help I would appreciate it thank you

from what i learned in the past few days rewiring a pontoon with a 77 70 hp j there is a little fuse on the top of the back of the motor a little waterproof holder. i would start there, connections on battery, test the power to the motor with a multi tester. after that i am lost. the fuse fixed our problem didn't have to look anywhere else.
