TOPIC: Skeg Measurements 100 HP JOHNSON OR EVINRUDE

SKEG MEASUREMENTS-

Does anyone have skeg measurements for the heavy duty lower unit of the 1966, 67 or 68 100 Hp Golden Meteor or Evinrude Starlite?

I have a busted skeg and everyone wants the measurements to tell if they have a replacement, but I don't have measurements because it is missing.

I need width Top and Bottom, Length diagonally and vertically. This skeg is a 90 degree right angle.

Gee Dave, Just so happens there is one of those odd balls hanging on the transom of my "Pull Toy" '67 Golden 100hp. Hope these pictures help. Had to lay down on the basement floor under the boat, that wasn't the hard part, getting back up on my feet is harder

A good welder can actually make one up for you from scratch, I've done it a our local Prop Shop in Green Bay.

Thank you so much. You guys that are in boating country are lucky. The marine service here said they can't do anything unless I find a skeg to weld on.

I just haven't found the right people to help out here. Not many marine mechanics, but I can recommend Sushi restaurants......

Not a big fan of raw fish unless it's on the end of my line

My Merc 800 DR project. I made this from a piece of 1/4" plate. I used the pictures from my shop manual for the outline, and profiled it using the cross-section at the break. Lot's o' grinding and sanding... Local fabricator supplied the plate and did the welding. $60 total. I'll fair it before painting with some epoxy filler.

Nice work! I dropped my lower unit off at the only welder I could find in the area that had done it before. $60 is quite a bargain. I'm at $100 to $150 and I removed the lower unit and it is coming back to me to do the finish work and I provided the replacement skeg.

I get it back on Monday.

I got it back. It's not perfect, but it will have to do. Now to try and find the original colors.
