TOPIC: 1985 Evinrude VRO 60hp

As I continue to search for the right motor for my daughter's 15ft Steury, I came across a 1985 Evinrude VRO 60hp. The boat is rated at 65hp max. The oil injection has been disconnected. It has power tilt/trim.

He is interested in trading me for my 1976 Evinrude 85hp. I don't have t/t.

Is the 85 Evinrude a good motor? I'm assuming going to a 2 cylinder will give pretty good gas mileage and be a bit less noisy?

I am considering it an even up trade (my increase in hp offsets his t/t) Fair?

1985...too new for me.
Anything less than 40 yrs old, computer enhanced, oil injected is past me. Sorry.

that 60hp is a very good motor ... i was working for a OMC dealer when they were new..i was quite impressed with the performance of them..

IMHO the 60 HP with PT&T would be a MUCH better fit for the daughter's boat, and will get twice the "gas mileage" the V4 85HP will get. If it were me I'd jump on the deal - assuming the motor checks out okay (compression, etc..).

Is it the two cylinder or the three? Not familiar with the two, but the three as I recall has a good reputation.

Well, I just keep realizing how much I don't know...didn't even know there was a three cylinder. I will have to check!!
