TOPIC: convert to Pertronix Ignition?

I would like to convert my 1963 short shaft Homelite to Pertronix ignition. Others may have done this already. Could anybody help me out with part numbers?

Don't know about Homelite, but I did this on my Mercruiser 165 (basically a GM 250 6 cylinder inline) and it made a dramatic difference. Engine runs smoother, starts easier, and I only have to set the dwell. However, the only problem I ran into was with the coil. When I bought the ignition module, they recommended a specific coil. It did not work properly with my engine. When I re-installed the original coil it ran fine

Got my answer from a very reliable source (Bill Roberts). Pertronix Part #1545. I have not installed yet but sure it will work.

Got it installed and it works perfectly! Was all set to have to reset the timing. The motor started right up, idled smoothly as could be. Checked timing and it was perfect at 8* BTDC. Thank you Bill!

Yes, I think the pertronix is a must have for these engines. Stable idle, instant starts, smooth cruise. Doesn't add power, just helps her start and run efficiently.
I sold all my factory tooling and parts.

As I said. they recommend a specific coil, but it didn't work right. If you do get a new coil make sure you can return it for a refund.

I have to comment that I love that boat and motor combo. I wish you the best at keeping it running and out on the water!

I used the original coil that was installed on the motor when it was new in 1963. That coil has a rounded top and is about 5" +/- tall. To restate after instalation the motor started and ran great without having to retime.
