TOPIC: Evinrudes not enough

Evinrudes not enough 12 years 9 months ago #55418

Heyy all!! Right now i have a Evinrude Lark IV (which is a 40hp) mounted on my G3. All though it looks perfect with the boat, it gives me a little disappointment when i hit the throttle. Ive heard a Hustler or Stinger would be nice but they seem to be hard to find.. Dare i say it but i think I might want to switch to the dark side and get a 650 merc or 800. Does anyone have one that might be up for sale??

thanks, derek (well-worth-it)

Hi Derek, yep 40 hp is a little tame for a G3. I am really happy with 85 HP, and I would be happy with a little more... the boat handles real solid, and I think even a slight bit more would be great. I would tell you an 800-1000 would be just right.

Totally agree , 800-1000 but a 650 aint bad either. I have a 650 and was very pleased with skiing and speeds to 42-45. Plus imo it looks like it was made for a g3, depends on your needs B) If you can find a 1000 go for it, as there's not much weight difference in the older big motors...

70 hp up to 115 hp is ideal I think, for a G-3.

There are 2 ss omcs in the classified, though a bit pricy for me I think they are both a good deal, On the other hand the short mercs are easy to find and in all hp ranges and mostly cheeper. But its all about the $$ how much do ya want to spend?

:( Whats going on with Jim S. thinking. He retired his 650 that was the best motor on this planet and now he says he recommends 70-115hp now that he has upgraded  At least he didn't go over to the other side, guess thats a blessing,LOL :cheer:

I recommend two different size motors for a G-3---Big and Bigger!!!!

All ya gotta do is "keep the wet side down"!!!
