TOPIC: New guy with old fiberform

New guy with old fiberform 4 months 10 hours ago #141767

I just picked up an older fiberform 16 foot close bow with 140 hp in/out mercruiser. I don’t see a hin number , but inside on the front passenger side it has a fiberform tag that reads.serial number 16v I/o 71401. Any body know the year or model. It looks very light weight. And how well does the 140hp run in a small boat like this.

It looks like someone cut the dash out with a sawzall and rivited some plywood in it's place. I think you might have a "customized" boat there. 140 HP is way overkill for a little 16' runabout. Can you post a photo of the transom and engine compartment?

Jan, overkill??? this coming from a enthusiast that would stick a Chevy 350 into the same boat?
I've found that a 14 footer with a 135hp does very well.
He has a nice project to keep busy with if the motor runs and doesn't have a cracked block or manifold. The radio is toast, snow is not it's friend.

I never put a small block Chevy in a place where a big block will fit.

Is a 120/140 hp 4cyl good enough for this boat or would s 4.3 v6 be a good upgrade.

I was told to put the Chevy V6 in my restore. I did not do it. Use Marvel mystery oil in all the piston chambers. let set 24 hours then see if motor turns over. that will help you make a decision. Nice Boat...

Most of what I would like to do is strip the interior, remove the jump seats. Remove the back to back seats , install front buckets and and just a rear bench . Chop and rake back the windshield. And I hope I don’t get to much crap , but install a warp 9 Motor or possibly warp 11 with a zilla controller. And probably 144 amp setup. And some leaf battery modules . I would like around 160-180 hp. . Flexible walk front solar and some at the rear over the motor and battery area just to gain some owner back.

I just picked up a Nissan Leaf electric motor and controller. Had 23,000 miles. These motors can make over 300 hp, I looking for about 160/170. Need to figure out what lithium batteries.
