The Southern New England Chapter is pleased to announce that Matthews Barnes, a Connecticut native and Southern New England Chapter Member, will be giving a talk and Power Point Presentation on the Mayflower II, currently undergoing restoration at the Mystic Seaport Museum during our boat show on Saturday July 8th at the Ct River Museum.
Matt’s presentation will be in the “Boat House” of the CT River Museum and will last for approximately 1 hour, with time for a Q & A session. The presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m.
Matt is a boat builder and lead shipwright for the Mystic Seaport Museum. He is currently overseeing the restoration of the 1957 Mayflower II, a full-scale reproduction of the original ship that brought the Pilgrims to New England and the New World almost 400 years ago. Matt will speak about the Mystic Seaport, the ships 60-year history, and her 30-month restoration at the Seaport.
Matt has been with the museum for 4 years and has worked on the restoration of the Charles W. Morgan and her 38th voyage. He has also worked on various other projects for the museum.
Matt is a 2010 graduate of the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, RI. He and his wife Hadley are the proud owners of NEPENTHE, a 1948 Kettenburg 38 Sloop.
I hope you will join me on Saturday, July 8th at 1:00 p.m. in the “Boat House” of the CT River Museum to hear Matt’s presentation on the Mayflower II!
