Today I took a break from the paint and worked on the floor. It was my first setback with the project that I noticed I needed to cut through the fiberglass that covers the wood floor of the boat. The wood was so rotted that it needed to be removed. Unfortunately I didn't take any "Before" pictures I guess I was frustrated :) However there is a picture of a barrel full of some of the rotted wood.

This is the floor with all of the rotted wood removed

Finishing the transom today. I will totally complete the transom when I install the floors.

Transom in and tight. I am still going to reinforce the back and perhaps add an additional piece of wood in the area the motor will attach.

Thanks Ron! I will check that out...What about Paradise Boat Works in Castile, NY? I hear some really nice things about the guys there. I have a '58 Johnson Seahorse on another boat that needs to be looked at.

Keep in mind I pretty much wear the same outfit every time...grungy old work shorts and a white tshirt. So it might look like I'm doing it all in one day :)

Re:1958 Custom Craft Project 9 years 2 months ago #114466

I wouldn't say that. The really hard stuff is pretty much already done. Probably just doesn't live on the board, or been busy, or something came up.

I'm restoring a Mark 58 but it's taking a while as I have other things to do too. Don't see getting it completely done until next spring.

He said he is a teacher and Cross Country Coach, so I'm pretty sure there is no time for the boat right now.
I hate it when work gets in the way of a project !
