mrho455,

That tri-hull design lends itself well to some nice space inside I bet. Any interior photos?

woosterken,

Yes, and no. That is a Sea Lion cabin and top, but it is not a Sea Lion Hull. I'm not sure what that is. Larson had 2 plants. Perhaps that was a southern 'lion and I'm used to the northern, Little Falls MN 'Lion.

Curious.

UPDATE:

Not so curious. That is a Surfmaster. One size bigger boat without the unique swooping gunnel.

Heres a couple of shots of my 67 crestliner explore 16. They made them from 60-68 i believe. I haven't decided if I am going to close it in or leave it open.

The answer is clear with a simple question. Will bugs bight you while you sleep if it is left open?

If I get this Sea Lion, I will want the enclosed bulkhead version. Minnesota has some nasty bug infested nights!

Cat Fin:
That scan is from my collection.
Interesting story behind it.
There used to be a Cathouse site for old fiberglass power catamarans online, I think Jeff Bowman owned the site.
Around 99 I bought the Jet Cat brochure off ebay and we put it up here on FG and Jeff's site.

Then Rick who used to be on here a lot was with his wife in Mexico of all places and on the way home sees the Jet Cat sitting next to a fire station. It was being used as a kids playhouse. So he made a deal with the guy on the spot and ended up bringing it back to the USA. He's still married too! It had twin Evinrude 75hp V4's on it. He still has it. It is a heavy boat, huge room in the cabin.
I got in touch with one of the designers' son, then Rick got in touch with the guy that owned Fiber Resin Corp. They made 4 as I recall, I think two were inboard and two were outboard. One had Cadillac engines in it.
I made copies/scans of the brochure then sent the original to Rick so it could be with the boat.
All that took place a long time ago.

Say billr, who was the designer of that Jet Cat Cruiser? What a great find. (even just the brochure) One of 4 made! Does he still have it? Use it? Twin V4s......80 gallon fuel tank?

Re:Calling all Day-Cruisers! 13 years 2 months ago #47580

BillR...'99 would be about the time I first found FG and your scan, thank you. Are the pics in the FG Library the one from Mexico? I thought I saw it for sale about 2 years ago. I remember we were busy with the move and it will not fit in a container. 1 known and 3 possable I'm not givin' up hope, it's my first choice to fill the cabin cat space. Cataloge pic looks to have Mercs, maybe they 2nd outboard one. I always pictured that one was red, white & blue. The twin Caddy one would be an epic find.

jepstr67... It was designed by Till Schmid. Hull design was based on Albert Hickman's 1902 patten for the Sea Sled. Check out the library the story is a good read and spec sheets. www.fiberglassics.com/library/Jet_Cat Would be a tuff restore, but would look awsome "as new" restored.

Rick at www.retroboats.net owns it now, check his site for pics.
As far as cats I like the ones attached too, notice the one piece automotive glass windshields. One is in CA, this one in TX was from NV.
Better put my daycruisers up so I don't hijack the thread with cat stuff:
The aqua/black/white boat is my 1958 Skagit 20.
The blue boat is my 1960 Dolphin.
The white boat is my 1966 Dorsett San Juan.

This is my 1963 Sea Ray 808 Cruiseabout. Sea Ray came out to the house and did a photo shoot of it to put in their magazine "Sea Ray Living". I'm hoping that it will be in the spring edition. How neat is that?

Re:Calling all Day-Cruisers! 13 years 2 months ago #47819

Nancy and I got started with this whole boat thing when we were given a Cuddy Cabin outboard Starcraft. When researching what we had I was told by "experts" that the stand-up steering (aft helm) as opposed to the interior cabin steering (forward helm) was the distinction between the Cuddy and Day Cruisers. I'm partial to the Day Cruisers that have a continuity to their design as opposed to the ones that are runabouts with built-in tops and windshields added-on. I like all of them though and even the SeaFair Sedan that's so obviously a modified Avalon. Beautiful boat.

Of course, the Day Cruiser we found is the most beautiful. It's for sale and listed in the boats for sale here and at www.boatsinthebelfry.com

By the way, it needs cabin glass but has a new aftermarket windshield for the top.

This photo is a photoshoped image to show it's originl colors.

Hi everyone, new member here. Picked up my first cuddy cabin today. 1959 Winner Baronet. Came with a older Suzuki outboard on the boat, and in the process of getting the boat loaded, the owner came out and gave me a 57' Johnson Golden Javelin 35hp outboard motor with it!!!!! The price was amazing!!! $50!!!
Anyway, here she is:

Morning John,

Are you saying that your old boat might be up for sale again? Maybe you can get her back for less than you sold it. That would be a real deal!

Hey Bill,

I love how you add, "He's still married, too" in there. Single guys just don't know the extra mile we married types have to go sometimes for our hobby. I'm very lucky. Wife is supportive for the most part - until I hit the Ebay boat parts listings, that is.

Here's a '59 Thunderbird we bought. Normal size back then, but compare it to today's trailerable cruisers! This is a future project (after our Howie Craft).

I just purchase this one. I liked the looks of it. I have installed a Nissan 30 hp, but think it will not be sufficient HP. Will take it to the water in a couple of weeks

Morning Haynes,

That pic makes me laugh! In its day, the red/white cruiser was a bigger boat, but, as you say, the larger boats got even larger in the years that followed. The lines on the old cruiser are classic and will always hold the attention of old guys like us all on ehere.

Morning John,

Yea, I'm pretty maxed out too right now. The Mrs is being supportive but I believe I could blow that quickly by bringing home another stray. She sure is pretty, though.
