Were you able to make the deal and take custody of her then? While you certainly have your work cut out for you, it appears most of the boat and hardware is still there. Great find, I love those old cruisers!

I caught up to him and he says the engine runs.
After many fishing stories he says he would take 300.
He wants it to go to a good home.
I would have to put this one on a far back burner. But what a sweet little ride it would make. I would just like to get the thing in out of the elements so it doesn't "decay" further.

Struck the deal with the owner of the Del Mar today.
We did some trading, I just love the barter system.
Looks like she will be coming "home" in a few days.
Now I just have to rearrange the shop to insert it into the fleet.
My wife thinks I am nuts but I keep telling her that if I keep covering the shop floor with boats, that is just less space I have to sweep!!

You traded, even better! Thats great you got the boat. I like the cabin and it would make a nice little fishing boat with some where to excape the sun and store your gear.
Here is a pic of mine 3 months before I bought it, Mike

Bigfoot
Is that a 58 Sedan? How does she look today?
Too bad the 56 Del Mar wasn't offered is something a little bigger, same style only in a 18 or 19 foot.

You do realize that the DelMar and Club Mariner used 1953-1961 Studebaker Coupe and Hawk rear windows as windshields?

Here's a '59 Club Mariner I'm working on...similar to the DelMar and a lot beefier...runs sweet with a 115 merc...

Just like the posting above stated they do have hulls like this called the club mariner which are 19' long and almost a foot wider.
I actually just goy my "new" del mar project 3 months ago. The pics I posted were from Febuary but I didnt buy it untill May. I had to wait untill he broke down and finally accepted my offer. It looks pretty fair after a bath and I plan on (you know how that goes) replacing the floor, transom, all finish wood with varnish and more then likely a different motor. Yeah a 58 but almost like a 56/57. My friend has the same lower hull but a gold cup model and he says its a good hull for some moderate chop (more or less) since he uses his in the bay quite often. once I finish the wood replacement in my g3 I will probably start this del mar. Hopefully by the end of 2011. I just began the g3 and have a long ways to go, Mike

ps.. here is a video of the delmar project

69Fabuglas I believe that I had read in a thread here that one of the designers at Glaspar worked at Studebaker or had some connection with them and that is how the rear window came into play.
I hope I dont break it when I'm trailering it, that would not be good at all.
ricphoto I really like that Mariner. I like the bigger boats. The work on the interior is looking really good. Gives me inspiration and ideas for the Del Mar. Can't wait to see it completely finished.
I do like the look of wood in the interiors of boats.
Bigfoot Keep us up to date on that Del Mar when you get it started.
I will keep posting my progress here when I start mine. If I can do half of the quality of work that I see here, it should be a heck of a little craft for my wife and I. :)

Took possession of the 56 Del Mar today before work.
I work swing shift, so she went to work with me. ;)
(Mixed reviews from the co-workers!!)
It gets put in the shop tomorrow. Finally in out of the elements
for the first time in 9 years.
I will get a shot of it in it's new home tomorrow.
It will have to be this winter when I get started on it, other projects are still in the works.

NEIL: CONGRATS, Looks like you have a great shop / garage there full with lots of boating stuff. Glasspars are good models , collectible going forward.

Eddie G in calif , wrote a book last year, about early years in Glasspar & design wanted something different, when one of the co-workers just bought a Studebaker coupe, so they went to the parking lot for sizing / etc.

Keep us posted with future pics.

Split
The shop is 40 x 72 and always full of "stuff".
The half of a hull on the floor on the right is a 17 foot Apollo
that I split lengthwise. It will go up on the back wall as "decoration"!!
Speaking of decoration, here is what is outside the front door.

Yours was all wood there instead of fiberglass ?? Im no expert by far on these boats .. I just think thier pretty cool looking ..I hope to have mine done by spring ..Do you have a pic of yours on here ?? Ild like to see it ..
