TOPIC: 58 glasspar ?

58 glasspar ? 8 years 3 months ago #126424

Im new to this s I purchased site. Recently I purchased this boat, what I believe is a 1958 Sport Lido. It appears to have the original 58 Mark 58 motor.I was able to run the serial number on the motor, and its a 58, that's where I came up with the year of the boat. I cant find the hull number on the boat. The registration says its a 71, but I know that's not right. I am especially interested in the original upholstery colors and style. The boat is in great shape, with nice original floors. The seats are original with all brackets intact, but have been recovered at some time. I plan on light restoration, and using it. I also have some other boats including a 56 Lonestar Coronado, and a 56 Blue Star. The Glaspar is my favorite. I will try to ad a picture or 2,

Well, Im going to try to post my photos again, evidently they were too large for the forum. Since I found this Glasspar, I came across another cool boat. I believe this is a 59 Larson Pla-Boy, maybe a Pla-mate, not sure. I am confused about the Glasspar, as seats are different than one pictured. Its definitely a 58 Mercury Motor, Mark 58A, as I checked serial number. These boats while rare in these parts, they are really cheap when you can find them. I plan on restoring both boats. The Glasspar has nice original floors and transom.

Hello 58glasspar,

The early Sport Lidos had the walk thru deck like in the picture Jim Savage posted ealier.

I believe 57 was the first year for the Sport Lido which is pictured above.

I have friend who has an all original 59 Sport Lido which looks like yours. His father bought the boat new and I have more pictures showing the interior. The 59 Fat Fifty on Brett's Lido makes it lots of fun out there riding that chine.

Thanks,
Terry

I had a feeling it wasn't a 58, as the seat and rear deck are different, the motor is a mark 58, and its definitely a 58, per serial number. Any idea on the Larson?

Its not a Larson, its a Glasspar. Larson bought out Glasspar 10 years later in 1968 and screwed up the looks of the original Glasspars.

58glasspar,

Your Larson looks very similar to the 59 Pla-Boy listed in the Library.

See:
www.fiberglassics.com/library/Larson

The Larson logo looks different and I don’t see the Pla-Boy logo on your boat.

Thanks,
Terry
