First mention of Schenkel Bros. is found in a 1956 news article listing the company as making houseboat cabins for Plaza Craft Boat Mfg. Co. of Dixon, Missouri. Eventually this company made White Water fiberglass boats including canoes, johnboats, and runabouts in the 1960's (1965 Jan. - June Boating magazine). The company may have begun in 1947 and around 1970 made mobile homes (Bills to provide for purchase of mobile homes under VA guaranteed mortagages, US House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Housing, 1970).
