Installed the new impeller today... careful to ensure it had the same twist related to direction of spin. I also bought and installed the missing washers to seal the gear lube screws. Hoping that will prevent the minor water contamination I found when I drained it. Now moving onto removing the white overspray paint. Where you see the scotchbrite pad you can see a spot I scrubbed off the paint. Where the paint is thicker, it takes much more time and effort to remove. I am wondering if I should just remove the speckled paint areas completely and then just rough up the solid white paint areas before painting with my phantom Black. Is the scotchbrite scuffing going to be too rough for painting? Do I need to use a 150 or 250 grit of other grit sandpaper before painting black again?

Looking good at this end. I'm sure that old impeller would have been "adequate" but the new one will last a few years and sure will push more water.
The Scotchbrite would work but would be way too much effort for me. Did you try using some lacquer thinner to wipe that white overspray off? Depending on what kind of paint the PO used it just might wash right off. I know MEK will take it off but will probably take off the white, original paint, your fingernails, and the hairs in your nose. That would be a job for outdoors.

I will see if I have some lacquer thinner on the shelf. Would acetone do it or mineral spirits as I know I have those. If not, I will make a trip to the hardware store. Thanks.

Acetone might. Mineral spirits won't touch it.

Ok - time for a trip to the hardware store after the holiday. Time out to prep boat for a rainy weekend just in case I can find sunshine.
